Time to nominate for more service posts for Area! (7/9 2024, Q3)

Now is the time to nominate a new CASSO member, CASSO chair, Helpline chair, Retreat Committee chair, Hospitals & Institutions (S&I) chair, Unity chair and vice delegate. Nominate by filling in the form further down the page. The service positions are appointed at the Area Meeting on September 7, 2024 (which will be held physically/hybrid during the Sweden Convention 2024 in Borlänge). The nominees must be consulted and are recommended to attend the Area Meeting.

Member CASSO

The service assignment involves the following:

  • Attend CASSO meetings.

  • Participate in area meetings.

  • Is involved in ensuring that Traditions are followed.

  • Voting rights on topical issues in CASSO and at area meetings.

Desirable knowledge and qualities:

  • Meticulous and responsible.

  • Familiar with the traditions.

  • 6 months of active service in CA.

Desirable minimum sober time: 1 year.

Length of service assignment: 2 years.

WHAT IS CASSO?

CASSO (CA Sweden's Service Organization) consists of six people (chairman, vice-chairman, secretary, treasurer, 2 members) who work together to CA Sweden to function smoothly. CASSO is responsible for CA Sweden's economy and for organizing area meetings. CASSO also takes input from districts and/or meeting groups, which is then forwarded to delegates or directly to CA World's organization in the USA.

What is an Area Meeting?

Area meetings are meetings where representatives from different districts, meeting groups and committees (belonging to the same geographical area) meet and discuss general issues related to CA. CA Sweden is currently counted as one area.


Chair CASSO

The service assignment involves the following:

  • Overall responsibility for CASSO.

  • Organize the area meeting every 3 months, put together the meeting agenda and book the venue for the area meeting.

  • Answer general questions asked to CASSO, find out answers if necessary and support the groups in case of problems. Be the spider in the web.

  • Always get back as soon as possible in case of any questions and follow up.

  • Chair CASSO meetings before area meetings.

  • Drive CA Swedens development forward.

  • Only the right to vote in the event of a tie.

  • Responsible for CA s bank account along with the treasurer.

Desirable knowledge and qualities:

  • Energetic and responsible.

  • Good knowledge of the Traditions.

  • Previously performed service assignments in CA.

Desirable minimum period of sobriety: 2 years.

Length of service assignment: 2 years.

President Helpline

The service assignment involves the following:

  • Hold a practical meeting every two months.

  • Attend the area meeting four times a year and represent the committee.

  • Voting rights on topical issues at area meetings.

  • Answer questions about the Helpline.

  • Be responsible for the Helpline Facebook page.

Desirable knowledge and qualities:

  • Good knowledge of the Traditions.

  • Previous service assignments within CA.

  • Good interpersonal skills.

Desirable minimum sober time: 1 year.

Length of service assignment: 2 years.

WHAT IS THE HELPLINE COMMITTEE?

The Helpline Committee is responsible for ensuring that there are always people available to answer CA's helpline.


Chairman Retreat Committee

The service assignment involves the following:

  • Call a practical meeting of the Committee.

  • The committee is responsible for deciding when, where and how the retreat will take place.

  • Attend all Area meetings and vote

Recommendations for Retreat Chairs:

  • Steeped in tradition

  • Previous service assignments in CA

  • Should have experience from participation in previous Retreats

  • You should be structured.

  • Be able to delegate and ask for help

Desirable knowledge and qualities:

  • Accurate and responsible

  • 6 months of active service within CA

Desirable minimum period of sobriety: 2 years.

Length of service assignment: 1 year.


President Hospitals & Institutions (S&I)

The service assignment involves the following:

  • Holding regular practical meetings as chairperson.

  • Serving the Committee and its group conscience.

  • Holding S&I Workshops.

  • Being at the forefront and developing the way we work with S&I.

  • Performs S&I missions.

  • Is involved in ensuring that Traditions are followed.

  • Voting rights on topical issues at area meetings.

Desirable knowledge and qualities:

  • Good knowledge of the Traditions.

  • 12 months of active service in the S&I Committee.

Desirable minimum sober time: 1 year.

Length of service assignment: 1 year.

WHAT IS THE S&I COMMITTEE?

The main purpose of CA is carrying the message of recovery to those who are still suffering. One way we do this is by visiting, prisons, psychiatric clinics, detox clinics, treatment centers, halfway houses, etc. to talk about the 12 Steps and make people aware that CA exists. The Committee within CA that works with reaching out to these places is called H&I.

President Unity

The service assignment involves the following:

  • To create cohesion within CA in Sweden.

  • Participate during area meetings.

  • Organize Unity events.

  • Set up a Unity Committee if needed.

  • Voting rights at area meetings.

WHAT IS THE UNITY COMMITTEE?

The Unity Committees’ purpose is to enhance our communication and outreach among the diverse elements within the fellowship in the interest of carrying the CA message and to promote CA unity.


Vice Delegate

We are now looking for a Vice Delegate for CA Sweden. Do you feel that you are the one who would fit well in that position? Or do you know someone else who would fit?

Always ask the person you want to nominate if it is ok.

Recommendations for the Vice Delegate:

  • Have recovered through the 12 steps and have 4 years of sobriety.

  • That you are familiar with the 12 traditions.

  • That you have done service before.

What does it mean to be a Vice Delegate?

Be prepared to step in if the regular delegate falls ill/is unable to attend. It can be to go to the world conference and participate in the other mainland European meetings. So work side by side with the delegates and familiarize yourself with the work that is. Familiarize yourself with CA world service manual.

Description of a Delegate and its duties:

CA is still growing, spreading out in the world, new areas in parts of the world where no representation of CA have been present before. CA started in Los Angeles in the 80s.

As a Delegate you will communicate mainly in English. You don't have to be fluent in English, but it helps if you are able to read and speak so that others understand. It is also beneficial if you have a computer and computer knowledge.

It is fun, and you get to meet people from all over the world!

Being a delegate is a big task

  • There is quite a few long emails with documents annually that needs to be read.

  • Annual conference is about one week that needs to be attended.

  • Annual meetings within the region, in person, 2 per year.

  • Annual meetings within the region, digital, 2 per year.

  • Attend Area meetings, 4 per year.

  • Attend meetings in your local area to be informed on business of your area.

Duties

All stated in the World Service Manual that can be downloaded here.

An overview excerpt:

  • Understanding the 12 steps, 12 traditions and the 12 concepts.

  • Informing your area on topics regarding World Service matters.

  • Informing and promoting on all area, regional and world events.

  • Informing your region on topics regarding area matters.

  • Keep you vice delegate informed.

  • It is suggested that a delegate has no other service commitments on the level of districts or area.

  • Write a quarterly report to the regional trustee.

  • Delegates serve on a World Service Conference Committee.

  • Delegates provide CA leadership by helping to solve local problems involving the CA.

  • Being a link between the trustee/region/World Service and the region.

  • Promote and encourage the area to donate 7:th tradition to World Services.

  • Willingness to learn and use the World Service Manual and the Conference Charter.

Suggested sobriety: 4 years, term is 4 conferences (4 years). Suggested to only serve one term.
